WOMAN’S CLUB OF ENGLEWOOD

Purpose, activities, and fellowship are the building blocks of our new Club year.
Summer is drawing to a close and we are ready and eager for an exciting and meaningful new Club year. Let’s all take part to make this year the best one yet. We need to strive for new members and continue our work on Clubhouse improvements. Looking for something to do? The Woman’s Club is your answer. Come to the first meeting of the Club year on September 19th at 1 PM. A perfect time for you to meet and greet your friends old and new.

MEMORIAL
During the year we were deeply saddened by the loss of a long time member, Vivian Farris. Vivian worked diligently for over twenty years on our Scholarship Program. She visited High Schools, spoke to students, interviewed them and was involved in the selection of scholarship recipients. She will be dearly missed by us all and we will remember her with fond affection. She and her husband gave a separate scholarship in their name. We are grateful for the memorial fund of over $5,000 that was collected from her church friends and club members. Her family will be involved in how to disperse the funds. May her spirit live on. Never to be forgotten!
Keep in mind that memorial plantings and trees are also a good way to remember those we loved. We planted a purple plum tree in memory of Dorothy Bullough. We held a dedication ceremony which was attended by her husband and her daughters. Thom has posted photos of this event on our website.

MAY 2011 NIGHT MEETING
We did try a night meeting, for the convenience of our members, hosted by the Public Affairs Committee in May. We had a great supper meeting and attendance was fair. We may try it once more in the Spring. Let us know if you are interested in night meetings. Use our suggestion box for your comments.

BARBECUE
Our annual Summer barbecue, held on August 1, 2011, was both a success and enjoyable. Over forty people were in attendance, guests and club members. Food was delicious and bountiful. Thanks to Beverly, Bea, Grace and Vreni who worked on it. We also played Bingo and talked away the afternoon. A good time was had by all.
